In the U.S., around 30% of people don’t floss regularly. The absence of flossing can cause gum disease, tooth decay, bad breath, tartar buildup and oral infections. To many people, flossing can be time consuming, inconvenient and difficult.
WIth that said, how might we make flossing more convenient and easier to do so that more people can make flossing a daily habbit and enjoy the health benefits that come with it?

In the early exploration stage, I explored different flossing concepts (string, water) for kids and adults. I ended up moving forward with the concept of adult-use shower water flosser.
I wanted my design to be simple and sleek, with a touch of organic elements. It should blend in with other modern accessories in the bathroom but provide just a hint of visual interest in the sanitary environment.

I began prototyping the initial concepts with a goal of narrowing down the functional aspect of the flosser (ex: storage-friendly, mouth-piece design) as well as getting a brief understanding on scale and feel. After testing and feedback, I moved forward with a specific form and worked on refinement of shape, interface design and ergonomics.
With the user need for cleanliness, the storage station for the flosser has a clear shield to block water and reduce build-up. The flosser attaches to the station magnetically after use. The station has a side cut-out for easy entrance and exit of the flosser.

Introducing ARC, a revolutionary shower water flosser that aims to change the way we floss. Featuring an innovative 4-way water stream replacement head, intuitive water pressure controls, and a sleek, moisture-repellent storage housing. By prioritizing usability and convenience, Arc streamlines the flossing process, making it effortlessly efficient and delightfully hassle-free.
Floss routine starts in your shower. It’s easier to blend flossing into your daily routines by doing so with another activity - showering. Connect the shower connector to the shower hose to get started. Ultimately, the convenience of flossing and showering at the same time can save time, reduce complexity and build a new healthy habit.
Multi-press button to control water direction:
1st press: front water stream
2nd press: rear water stream
3rd press: off
Water pressure control: 3 adjustable water pressure levels by twisting the lower knob.
Floss easily and thoroughly by gliding the rotatable floss head throughout your teeth.
Dry & clean in the storage shell. The storage housing provides protection from water splashes. It also attaches to the water flosser magnetically. The shell is rotatable allowing users to place the water flosser on the right of left side of the wall and adjust the shell accordingly to block water splashes.
Replaceable floss heads:
Keep your floss head clean by replacing it periodically. Use and swap out heads for different users. Opt for a subscription plan to replace them every 3 months.
